The Free Store

You can donate at Evangelical UMC on Broadwater Avenue from 9:00 – 11:00 AM on Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday.

Greetings to all Shiloh United Methodists! Our Mission Team has met and developed a calendar for 2024. The Mission projects we are looking at include supporting our children’s ministry, unhoused youth, Murdered and Missing Indigenous women and girls, back to school drive, veterans, a possible diaper drive with the other United Methodist churches in town, suicide prevention, community garden, and Free Store, to name a few.

The Free Store is a nonprofit organization that is sponsored by a consortium of four Methodist churches in Billings. The store is located at Evangelical United Methodist Church, 345 Broadwater Avenue. The store has been in continuous operation since 2011 and relies on donations of clean, usable clothing and household goods as well as financial support to assist with the expenses of utilities, packaging supplies and janitorial services. The store has been and is currently operated with an all-volunteer staff.

Shiloh UMC also provides lunches in rotation with the other churches. Last year approximately 2500 lunches were provided to the people visiting the Free Store. During the next six weeks, you will be getting to know the Free Store a little better. We believe that God is leading us to increase our support with the Free Store and we want you to understand more about the services, people and mission this wonderful organization offers to our community.

Blessings to you all during this Season and know that God is working with all of us to develop a deeper connection to our faith and all those who we serve in our church, our community and our world.

You can become involved by volunteering your time while the Store is open, by donating items (linens, kitchen items, clothing), or by donating money to help meet the $200.00/month rent and utility costs. Please contact Peg Parker: 406-690-6370 or at pjayco44@gmail.com.

Donate to the Free Store!

  • Always, the most common donation has been women's clothing. Currently, the supply has outstripped the demand. Consequently, effective June 15, 2024, no women's clothing will be accepted. The volunteers need to catch up with the number of sacks/boxes containing women's clothing. Once that happens, women's clothing will again be accepted. Thank-you for your understanding.

Also, as a reminder, only summer clothing for men and children should be donated. Our current needs are for children's shoes and swimming suits. Thanks for all you do for this ministry!

Thank-you so much for your support.

  • The generous donations for the Free Store given during Lent have resulted in a new need. The goal is to provide each family with a bottle of laundry detergent and a bottle of dish soap. We average 67 families each shopping Saturday, which translates into about 140 bottles, twice a month. The hard sided bottles are what is needed-Ensure, juice, tea, Gatorade, etc. The flimsy water bottles just aren't the best. Please ask your neighbors, family members, co-workers, etc. to save the bottles for you.

Please have them rinsed and if possible, the labels removed. There is a tote in the entryway at church where these can be deposited. The tote outside the church also works.

  • PLEASE do not donate items that are broken, stained, torn, etc.

Would you use/wear the item? If the answer is no, do NOT bring it as a donation.

  • We offer a couple donation sites:

In the donation box at Shiloh United Methodist Church (1810 Shiloh Road) during office hours.

At the Free Store location (345 Broadwater Ave.) in the alley door on Wednesdays, Fridays, or the 2nd and 4th Saturdays from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM
